Organic farming is not limited to just abandoning the use of agro-chemicals in agriculture but is a system of creating a favourable agro-ecosystem on an agricultural farm., International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) defines organic farming as, ‘A production system that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people. It relies on ecological processes, biodiversity and cycles adapted to local conditions, rather than the use of inputs with adverse effects.
Due to high demand of organic farming people are jumping into it without proper planning so, you should have some plan of action and a little bit of strategies so, that you can implement in time as you know agriculture is all about timing due to lots of unpredictability. So , lets have a look one by one
1.Market research
To start any kind of farming it’s a must thing to do a market research about the demand and supply. Although the demand of organic product is keep on rising day by day people are more drives towards healthy eating. But still in tier-1 and ties-2 cities have more concern towards it.As organic farm produces are high in price so, people belongs to those place where cost of living is high will be your hot client for this. But still you have a urge to pursue this farming you can create a market of your own with reasonable prices.
2. Soil test
Before pursing you must done your soil analysis . Soil test report reflect nutrient status of your soil. Specially organic matter content of your soil is very important. If it is deficient than you can add sufficient of organic matter via a good compost or vermicompost.it is not only increase organic matter status but also improve the soil texture.
3.Agri-inputs
If you want to purchase all the agri-inputs specially fertilizer and pesticides it will cost your high .so, learn to produce it on your own farm with all the local resources available. If you can sources out cow dung you can make cow dung compost by yourself .For pesticides also , neem tree is available in most of the warm climate area. you can easily make your own leaf extract botanicals that helps in managing pest and disease.
4. Crop farm plan/organic farm plan
Be intelligent enough to choose or prepare your own crop farm plan /organic farm plan before onset of mansoon.A detailed plan from land preparation to harvest is required.You have to prepare with your agri-inputs ready at your hand and chalked out the critical period and peak period at which the agri-inputs will be applied.
5.Labour
As in organic farming lots of things is restricted like spraying of chemicals to kill unwanted plant i.e weed.it always necessary to have regular staff/Labour at your farm to manually weeding out from the crop and other inter-cultural operation.
